iversity.org is an online platform for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). iversity enables universities and professors to provide online courses to thousands of students from all over the world.
However, we do not want to stop there. We want to move beyond the mere provision of course material and offer students the opportunity to get feedback on their work and a proper grade.
Therefore, we are building what we call a “Corrector Cloud” – a decentralised group of graduates from a variety of fields that review the work submitted by the students in our open online courses.
To trial-run this concept, we are currently looking for graduates in the fields of International Law, Human Rights, International Relations and Political Science.
Correctors will be asked to evaluate and grade written assignments from the online course “Public Privacy: Cyber Security and Human Rights” taught by Prof. Dr. Anja Mihr (The Hague Institute for Global Justice). The assignment consists of a five-page essay and we will provide you with detailed evaluation guidelines. The remuneration is set at 15 euros per essay.
For reasons of quality assurance we will conduct a study comparing the essay evaluation of our cloud correctors to those that result from the peer-review assessment that is otherwise used in many online courses. We will provide you with a reference letter detailing your involvement in this innovative project.
The whole project will run from late February to late March. The essays will be distributed to the correctors on March 9. Grades will need to be submitted by March 20. The number of essays per corrector will dependent on the number of participating students as well as the number of correctors. We will provide you with more detailed information as it becomes available, but you will not be assigned more essays than can reasonably corrected by any one individual.
- Fluent written English (CEFR: C1 or C2)
- Bachelor’s, preferably a master’s degree in the corresponding field of study.
- Teaching, tutoring and grading experience will be considered an asset.
To apply, please take the following steps:
We reserve the right to request appropriate documentation for the entries on your CV at any point (transcripts, degree certificates etc.). Failure to provide such documentation within two weeks of the request will disqualify you as a corrector and we will not be able to compensate you for your work.
We are looking forward to having you on board for this project. With your help we will truly be breaking new ground, opening up a new chapter in the history of online education.
