Bard College Berlin is a liberal arts college in the heart of Europe that offers students from all over the world interdisciplinary undergraduate education in the humanities and social sciences and the chance to earn a dual German and American BA degree. It was founded in 1999, and became part of the Bard international network – including partner universities in Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Palestine – when it merged with Bard College New York in 2011. The student body consists of 270 students from 60 countries and is a community that is exceptionally international and intensely diverse in terms of geography, culture, class, and economic background.
Bard College Berlin is hiring a Development Assistant to support the maintenance and growth of its development and fundraising department, which plays a crucial role in the advancement of the public visibility and awareness of the college as well as the further expansion of its curriculum and facilities.
The Development Assistant will be located in Berlin. The position reports to the Director of Public Affairs and Development and will work closely with the Major Gifts Officer in Berlin and the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs at Bard College in Annandale (NY).
The preferred candidate will have strong organizational, research, grant writing, and interpersonal skills, a very strong attention to detail, a self-starting work ethic, and should have excellent verbal and written command of German (mother tongue) and English. A strong belief in and a desire to support the liberal arts education concept and to help flourish Bard’s young and uniquely international campus in Berlin is essential.
Responsibilities include data and information management; research and writing, including grant proposals to private foundations and government entities; assisting faculty with grant applications; creating reports and acknowledgments; prospect identification; donor cultivation; events organization; and communication with the Board of Governors and preparation of the biennial Board of Governors meetings.
A background in grant writing, communication, development or fundraising is desirable. Familiarity with research tools and the creation and maintenance of databases is required.
