In recognition of the importance of GIZ and KfW as the largest bilateral donors in Europe, OPM has opened the new client-facing office in Berlin, Germany. We have a great opportunity for a Country Director (Geschäftsführer) for Germany, OPM Europe, to join a small and newly established team. The Country Director will be business development driven and open these markets in a systematic way, whilst developing and managing an office with an operational set-up suitable for efficient engagement with the EC and German donors. The Country Director is responsible for leading the development of OPM’s value proposition in the German and EU market.

The Country Director’s key responsibilities will be phased according to the stages of development of OPM Europe there will be focus on the following tasks in the first instance:

  1. Engagement with the set-up and configuration of the office. The Country Director will be expected to support the central business and a staff member of OPM Europe in setting up the country office, recruiting to strategy and putting business systems in place.
  2. Strategy development and implementation. The Country Director will be expected to develop and implement a strategy to access the German and EC market, which builds on strong cooperation with the technical teams and International Offices.
  3. Positioning OPM within the German and wider European market system. The Country Director will aim to establish OPM as a leading organisation in the German and European market with an existing network of like-minded organisations and individuals that they want to harness and develop.
  4. Achieving financial, operational and positioning targets. The Country Director will be responsible for the operational set-up that enables the implementation of the strategy and the resulting Operational, Sales and Project Margin and Positioning targets.
  5. Promote and role model the OPM values: act collaboratively and with mutual support; work with integrity and respect; trust and empower others, and take accountability for self

Professional/Technical Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • 1st degree in relevant discipline or similar level of knowledge gained through relevant work experience.
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant technical or business subject advantageous
  • Demonstrable in-depth professional/technical skills appropriate to the primary focus and activities of the team/office
  • Written and spoken fluency in written German and English

Client/Market:

  • Good understanding of OPM’s market, competitor and partner landscape and experience of working with multi-lateral and bi-lateral clients to develop OPM’s presence and position, as the “go-to” provider.
  • In-depth experience of relationship management and effective networking/partnering with key influencers whether individuals and clients

Commercial Acumen:

  • Proven experience of developing effective strategies and successful implementation to achieve success
  • Strong commercial skillset: comfortable with financial and wider data sets and uses effectively to inform thinking, assess risks and take decisions
  • Familiar with developing and deploying effective KPIs and targets to measure and direct performance

People Manager and Leader:

  • Proven line management experience. Track record of structuring, managing and mobilising successful teams to consistently perform
  • Strong understanding of how to build and maintain a positive, inclusive and high performing culture
  • Experience of formal mentoring approaches is desirable

  • Developing others: recognises strengths and provides support and opportunities for others to develop. Prefers to “coach” than “tell” wherever possible.

This is a full-time position based in our office in Berlin, please note you must have the right to work in Germany.
