The Glass Room is an immersive exhibition on technology, data and privacy that has been visited by 120,000 people worldwide.
It has been adapted to a number of formats. There is the large stand alone exhibition, that appeared in Berlin, New York and London, and also a smaller curated exhibition for major galleries, museums and festivals – The Glass Room Experience Plus. We have also set up The Glass Room Community Edition, a set of visualisations and digital assets that can be produced at scale so that events, communities and organisations throughout the world can host their own exhibition.
The Glass Room also provides self-learning resources such as the Data Detox Kit. This role will focus on developing and growing The Glass Room project by managing and coordinating events with partners and hosts world wide, as well as supporting the adaptation and distribution of the Data Detox Kit.
You’ll be working with our partners internationally to adapt and develop The Glass Room content to work with their communities. You’ll use your skills and experience in event production, outreach and partner engagement to support them to host their own exhibitions and engage visitors with content relevant to their context.
For this project you’ll mostly be working remotely with partners. However you’ll also be co-ordinating with events and organisations in Europe, which you may be required to visit to represent the project and Tactical Tech, as well as giving workshops on data and privacy.
This is a challenging role on a successful and exciting project working with highly engaged partners and the wider public.
Ideally we are looking for someone who is already working in education and engagement on technology. However, we would also be interested in seeing applicants with a passion for public engagement on social issues and also a willingness to learn about the topics explored by the project, so your enthusiasm and knowledge of the project can energise others.
- Glass Room global event management, outreach, organisation, logistics, administration and planning. Your main focus will be supporting partners – who may be inexperienced in events – to successfully host their own exhibitions.
- Partnership development and management – working with partners worldwide to adapt and develop the exhibition.
- Wide range of administrative and coordination tasks supporting teams on a variety of projects for outreach.
- Social media and digital communications for the project – both directly and also providing resources, plans and support for partners social media and digital activity.
- Oversee budgets and relationships with partners in often challenging contexts to ensure we achieve a set of ambitious deliverables.
- Response to external requests and non-project based events, workshops, event participation.
- Coordinate project merchandise, manage production of the materials and orders, manage inhouse stock and depository.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, grant tracking, including documentation and filing for audit, monitoring and evaluation purposes.
Skills and Professional Experience
- At least 3 years of experience in project management, organising (large scale) international events, including experience of exhibitions, production, and with a focus on network based projects.
- Good organisational skills with strong practical experience.
- Good writing skills as an asset.
- Demonstrate an interest and knowledge of our public education work in relation to technology, data and privacy. A general interest and willingness to educate and learn further on tech matters in relation to internet, everyday devices, digital security and privacy. A wider expertise in this field is an asset.
- Experience in printing, materials production, distribution and shipping, events and projects logistics, as well as desktop publishing, editing / moderating websites and social media channels.
- Professional manner when dealing with various service providers, speakers, trainers.
- The ability to work independently and in a variety of team settings.
- Fluent spoken and written English; additional languages (such as Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabic) an advantage.
- Experience working internationally and a sensitivity to political situations and different views of the world is essential.
- Demonstrable commitment to Tactical Tech’s mission and values, including an understanding of the geopolitical contexts in which Tactical Tech’s work is carried out.
This is a full-time temporary position for a 6-month contract. We hope to extend this position, depending on available funds and performance.
Salary varies with experience, but is highly competitive within nongovernmental sector.
